LOCATION

Château Saint Mambert is located on the commune of Pauillac in the Medoc, 50 km north west of Bordeaux.

The vines of Château Saint Mambert are close to those of Château Latour, Château Pichon Longueville Baron, Château Pichon Comtesse de Lalande and Château Lynch-Bages.

The area of the Medoc is 80 km long and 10 to 15 km wide with a surface area of 12000 hectares.

It is the combination of the geographical location of the vines, the soil that is made up of gravel on the surface and clay beneath, and the climate, which produces the great Medoc wines.

The risk of frost in the vineyards is considerably diminished due to the proximity of the Gironde estuary.

The layers of gravel on the soil allow the warmth of the sunlight accumulated during the day to radiate onto the grapes at night.
The clay underneath acts as a reservoir during hot periods allowing the roots of the vines to soak up water as required.

Grape varieties in the Medoc vineyards are as follows:

65% Cabernet sauvignon, which gives structured and very tannic wines. The tannins are found in the pips, the stems and the skins. They play a vital role in the conservation of the wine.
25% of merlot giving smoothness to the wine.
10% of cabernet franc
